Eye Exercise

TAKE CARE OF YOUR EYES:

There are ten basic eye movements. Each movement must be repeated six times. After completion of each step eyes may be gently closed for a few seconds before starting the next step. While performing the eye movements the neck must be kept up right and must not be moved. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, you may either prefer to take those off or if these do not interfere then you may also choose to continue wearing them. Effort must be made to keep the body in place and only move the eye gaze in a slow, rhythmic fashion without adding any strain to the muscles. Remember that the purpose of these movements is to relieve the strain in the eye muscles by releasing the deposition of unused lactic acid and other chemical transmitters that have accumulated during the course of daily activities. Following set of eye movements must be performed:

1. Looking up and then looking down (six times). Remember to move the eyes slowly, rhythmically, and momentarily look straight in between the up and down movement of the eyes.
2. Looking to the left and then to the right (six times). Remember to move the eyes slowly, rhythmically, and momentarily look straight in between the left and right movement of the eyes.
3. Looking to the left upper corner and then diagonally opposite to the right lower corner (six times). Again remember to make slow, rhythmic movements.
4. Looking to the right upper corner and then diagonally opposite to the left lower corner (six times). Again remember to make slow, rhythmic movements.
5. Looking to the left, then up, then right, and then down (six times) in slow, rhythmic movements.
6. Looking to the right, then up, then left and then down (six times) in slow, rhythmic movements.
7. Looking at the tip of the nose and then to the ground (six times) in slow, rhythmic movements.
8. Looking at the tip of the nose and then to an object in the distance (six times) in slow, rhythmic movements.
9. Rotating the eyes clockwise (six times) in slow, rhythmic movements.
10. Rotating the eyes anti-clockwise (six times) in slow, rhythmic movements

At the end of this, both the palms may be rubbed gently generating some heat. Then the palms may be placed over the closed eyelids and a gentle massage of the eyelid muscles may be done to relieve all strains in the muscles.
